Poppy Campaign
Poppy Campaign
The 2024 Poppy Campaign commences on October 27th (the last Friday in October) and will conclude on November 11th (Remembrance Day). All funds collected through donations, poppies, and wreaths help support local veterans right here in our community. Anyone wishing to make further contributions to the Devon Legion Poppy Fund can do so by contacting 02-247@legion.ca or visiting the Legion Lounge.
Thank you for wearing a POPPY in 2024!
Devon's Mayor, Jeffrey Craddock and 1st Vice-President Cde. Anthony Reaume
First Poppy
Devon's first poppy was presented on October 27, 2024 to Devon's Mayor, Jeffrey Craddock by Branch 247's 1st Vice-President Anthony Reaume. The presentation of the first poppy is a symbolic kickoff to the annual poppy campaign.
How Are Poppy Funds Used?
All donations collected during the annual poppy campaign are held in a special poppy fund account and can only be used for purposes that directly support veterans and current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP.
In Devon, our funds support veterans in need; helping them to find housing, emergency grants, and access to medical equipment.
We are also active supporters of VICD Service Dogs, a division of BC and AB Guide Dogs. VICD helps veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD acquire a fully certified service dog, helping them to reintegrate into the community. Veterans and first responders are matched with a service dog that has been trained by VICD, they then participate in a 52 week healthy living program where they learn to work and benefit from their new best friend.
VICD currently operates out of the Devon legion for its Edmonton and area training.
